LATIN HEAT GETS MORE CALIENTE….ARGENTINA VS MEXICO
It's a rematch of a round of 16 classic from the 2006 World Cup. Argentina won that game but Mexico looks to snap out of it’s round of 16 losing streak like it has in the past four World Cups. Will Mexico with 10 Europe-based players on the team be any match for MY favored team…the Argentines?
Right now, Argentina has won eight straight games overall lead by eccentric coach Diego Maradona yet they see Mexico as one of the most challenging teams to play against yet….so it’s going to be a good match up!!!
Mexico has won just four of its 25 meetings with Argentina, losing 11 and drawing 10. Let’s look at the talent pool.

PLAYING FOR MEXICO
Francisco Rodriguez
Club History
- Guadalajara (MEX): From 2002 to 2008
Francisco Rodriguez is returning to football's biggest stage for the second time after featuring for the first 45 minutes of Mexico's group encounter with Portugal in Germany four years ago.
Standing 1.90m tall, he has an aerial presence that sets him apart from most of his international colleagues and this, combined with his experience in European football, should ensure that 'Maza' – short for Mazatlan, his home town – has a strong chance of featuring in the Mexico starting XI in South Africa.
Like many other members of the Tricolor squad, Rodriguez is a product of the seemingly inexhaustible youth system at Chivas de Guadalajara. He made his league debut in the 2004 Clausura and the next year received his first international call-up from Ricardo La Volpe; he has been in and out of the national team ever since.
Although initially overlooked by Javier Aguirre when he took over the Mexico helm, Rodriguez prompted a change of heart in the coach with his excellent performances for PSV Eindhoven in the Dutch Eredivisie. The big defender had required time to settle in the Netherlands but became a first-team regular in 2009/10 and will hope to play an equally prominent role for his country in South Africa.

Carlos Vela
Club History
- Osasuna (ESP): From 2007 to 2008
- UD Salamanca (ESP): From 2006 to 2007
A leading member of the so-called “Golden Generation” that won the FIFA U-17 World Cup Peru 2005, Carlos Vela signed for Arsenal almost as soon as the tournament was over.
The pacy striker had to wait before making his debut with the Gunners, however, his lack of a work permit forcing him to gain experience in Spain in a series of loan moves, the first of them to Celta Vigo, then in the First Division. I
